The inlet manifold is sitting a little high and covering the bolt holes, Can anyone tell me how much I should machine off the bottom of the manifold to make it sit down about quarter of a hole lower....?

There is a rule for this - someone told me about 8 months ago and when I machined it, it was perfect, but unfortunatly its been lost in my sieve like memory.......

One for Vougue39 perhaps?

Have you got the heads bolted down?
You need to open up the holes of the manifold fixings

Don't like it!!!!!!

Yeah heads are bolted not moved from original position

Opening up holes will not get ports lined up....

The block has been decked and heads skimmed so to get everything lined up I have to skim inlet...

...I think it was about 0.8mm. for a quarter hole, I got this from a old boy - who knows his onions, and I think when he was building engines used the rule for compensating for composite gasket built engines that where going back to steel gaskets...

Either way if you don't know no worries - maybe its time I finally get to teach you something!!!!!!!!!;)

Will let you know and take a couple of pictures when I get the answer (I did this about 8 months ago, but have forgotted the number - see profile pictures...)

Thanks for your reply anyway mate!!!!

Well as the heads are now lower skimming the manifold is right but will need a good jig to hold the manifold true to skim that is why I have in the past just opened the bolt holes due to costs not ideal.

To move manifold down quarter of a bolt hole you need to machine 40 thou (1mm) off manifold base. I'll get a couple of pictures to show fixture.....
