I folks

Was in work yesterday and walked through one of our hangars and caught a glimpse of my car in the car park with indicators on constant (not flashing just on) It was about 11pm so was dark i went over unlocked it then locked it and its normal again. Is this because the alarm has gone off or something??

Any one got any ideas, its a 1999 4.0 se

Cheers fellas

That shouldn't do it, they will flash but stop after a set time (2 or 3 mins) but i cant help other than the flasher unit, it u/s do they work normally other than that? if the alarm did go off, it would have told you that on the dash (did you look?)

i didnt look at dash to be honest i just unlocked it then locked it and went back to work, a car had been parked next to it but was gone when this happened so i wondered if someone bashed it with their door or something. Everything working perfectly fine now though.

Thanks for reply.

Have you spilt anything down the side of the seats lately or had any liquid intrusion into the car?? The fault you describe can be caused by the BeCM. the indicators staying on on one side can be the first symptom of things going downhill.

Have you checked cables and earthing cables for corrosion etc??

No deffo no spillages (dont allow food and drink in the car lol) i've just pent a few hours valeting inside and out and can't find anything amiss, its also not done it again so god knws what it was.

Oh well thanks for all help guys.

I had the same problem - You mentioned a Hangar - is it an active airfield with radar cover?
Mine was down to rogue signals being picked up (from RAF aircraft with ground radar flying over where I live) and not being read properly (and ignored) by the RF reciever - Either buy the later "fixed" reciever for about £150 or do what I did and remove the conection for the aerial and replace it with a piece of normal wire about 100mm long - it does reduce the range of your remote control to about 8 feet on the drivers side and 3 feet on the passenger side but it cured mine.

Hey thanks for reply, the aircraft thing does sound plausable as there are about 15 Tornados parked 50 feet away, also my car is 100 ft from the active runway so maybe it is from their radar.

I may look into replacing the RF reciever then.....i'll have a search around the forum, see what its all about.

Thanks

I personally do not think changing the RF receiver will cure any problem like the one described. If the OP had come along saying he was constantly getting a flat battery, not being able to start - i.e. no crank, then I would think about the RF receiver.

Unfortunately I have heard of this symptom a few times now over at Rangerovers.net and it has always, more or less been BeCM failure or the beginning of BeCM failure.

You may be lucky and it may not appear again for ages but keep an eye out.
