Odd alarm issue.

Got a 53 reg TD5 Defender with an odd alarm problem. Park up & press lock on the fob & clunk.. locked. However, no flashes from the indicators but the light in the speedometer flashes fast then after a few seconds slows down to a nice regular speed. If i open the car with the fob, again no flashes from the indicators & everything works fine. If i open the car with the key & not the fob, i can hear a relay clicking so the horn & the lights should be flashing but they are not.
Anyone come across this before & any ideas where i should be looking to fix it?.

UPDATE.
Dug a bit deeper & when the alarm should sound & the indicators should flash, clicking can be heard in the instrument binacle but no movement can be felt at the alarm relay. Both fuses in the bulkhead fusebox marked alarm are good.
