immobiliser

I have a landrover freelander, the key needs recoding to inactivate the immobiliser. Can I reprogramme the key or does it have to be done by a main dealer?

to the best of my knowlege you should have a red master key this is the key used to 'program' the other keys a friend of mine shown me how to program ford keys but ive since forgot the sequence, by putting the master key into the ignition and turning it one turn then back off take the key out and put the key to be programmed in and turning it on then off then back on, but i cant remember how he shown me to do it.
so i would have to say you can program your keys by using the master key which is red (ford) but cant say about the land rover but i would immagine its similar.
