Hello everyone, just brought a range rover 4.0 Se auto 1997. it had the problem when i brough it, was told it had lost its code, i found the card with the code. the battery had gone flat so i charged it up last night then entered the code via the drivers door lock. checking the alarm led on the dash it went out and when i pressed the arm button on the keyfob the red led flashed fast then flashed slower and all looked ok to me.

when i press unlock the led light gose out but the door dose not unlock (has to be opened with the key and so dose the front passengers door, think he said the linkage was broke) in the car on the passangers seat there is a black box that has a sticker saying door outstation on it , then sat in the drivers seat put key into ignition turned the key once got display saying key in ignition then turned key again this gave me all the normal items on the bottom left of the display, and the info screen went through a few reports then just showed the total mileage and trip mileage.

turned key again heard one relay click then nothing it wont turn the starter motor. Could there be a problem with the drivers door lock selonoides and the switch that acepts the EKA code.

This is the info from the guy who sold it to me >>>>>

Spares & repairs
the car was running up till a week ago iv had my mechanic spend a good few hours checking over the car and seems to think the imoberliser has lost its code so will not start
Mot untill 11 march 2011
Tax 08 2010
100 litre LPG tank fitted in boot and is full of gas(£68 worth of gas) but requires a new vaporiser.
Air suspension has been replaced with coil springs so this car will never suffer with the common suspension problems.
Recent service, oil and filters changed, new spark plugs, new ht leads.
There is a problem with the front door locks as they wont lock/unlock with the key fob, the drivers door will lock/unlock with the key itself but the passenger door will not lock or unlock it just needs the central locking selonoides replacing.

I hope it was very cheap...

You probably need to get it on a Land Rover diagnostics to sort out the sync between the BECM and the engine ECU - if you put your location on there maybe some one close with a sync mate or Faultmate/Testbook to help you.

New door solenoids are definatly required - common problem.

You will also need to find a good LPG mechanic to sort out the vaporiser etc. they could also give you a certificate for the LPG too.

There your starters for 10 :)

Ok, my post code is NG16 4FX if there are any owners who might help me out, i also found this bit of info it reads, >>> Resynchronization is accomplished by performing a key lock or unlock within 30 seconds of requesting a remote lock, superlock, or unlock. The BeCM senses the change in state of the "CDL" (Central Door Locking) switch in the driver's door to initiate resynchronization.

can this be a reason as to the code not being receved via the EKA method due to the selonoid fault?

Firstly, there are no solenoids in the door latches...they are non replaceable motors, you have to buy another latch and if necessary you can then replace the motor assembly or complete latch as you choose.
Are you getting the "Engine Check" light on the dash when you turn the ignition switch to "on". Also, are you getting Engine Disabled or Engine Immobilised message ?
I am over in the UK next week, if you wish, you may send me a PM

Ill be taking a look at what comes up on the display tomorow and let you know all the display says as it gose through everything. if the passangers door has deadlocked it's self whats the next step to get the door open

All i get is a relay click when i turn the key fully but it all gose ok till then, something about a window not set comes on and i think something about a gearbox fault comes on too, i asked the chap when i brought the range rover if the engine and box were ok before the problem started and he said it was all good. i noticed tonight that its had a whole new door lock on the drivers side so it could be a wire traped or a plug not making a proper contact. my friend tried to open the passangers door tonigh with a net curtain wire and a hook but even when he got the hook on the arms of the door lock and pulled them it still would not open, he said he thinks it might be dead locked. :) WE HAVE A FEW BOXES OF BICCKES FROM THE WAREHOUSE AND A TEA URN TO KEEP YOU GOING. :biggrin1:

Might need resetting or the regulator may be shot, especially the drivers window (Common problem), surprising what a piece of 6" X 6" timber can do as a temporary fix !!!

Probably low or faulty battery...give it a good charge or replace.

If it's in superlocked mode and not responding to the keyfob command when the other locks do, chances are that the motor is fecked on that latch. There is no alternative other than to smash the superlock pawl to disengage the lock in order to open the door and replace the latch see www.rangerovers.net for details. It will be nigh on impossible to open the door to remove the trim and access the lock sctews without carrying out this procedure.

if someone has said this before,i am sorry for repeating it,fix the drivers side door lock solenoid first.
then do what i did,it may work,it may not,but it worked for me
right now for the tech bit
my p 38 responds to this it is a 95 model, don't know if the newer ones will respond to this.
right, make sure there are NO keys in the vehicle, this is very important the key must not be in the ignition or door put it in your pocket!
take off both battery leads, they won't be long enough but use something metal to short these 2 together,do not do this on the battery(obvious i know)
short these out for 30 seconds, this drains the batteries in the memory, and clears all faults, starting with a fresh memory.
reconnect battery
the key fob will not respond to your vehicle straight away
if the vehicle has locked, open by unlockin drivers door with key
place key in ignition, fire up vehicle as normal.
let it run for a minute or two, then switch it off
your key fob should now work, and all should be fine.................for a while.
hope this helps.

... and i think something about a gearbox fault comes on too...

This as already been posted by Irishrover but you may have missed it in his quote: change your battery or give it a full charge. Gearbox fault is sometimes triggered by a low battery (sometimes along with SRS and ABS faults).
