Im so fed up with my freelander going wrong!!!!

I have had it for 6 weeks, its a TD4 03 plate, it has been in the garage 4 times already, now the turbo has gone on it. It is still under warrenty so im not paying.
Are freelanders really this bad???
Do i sell it and forget landrovers all together???:confused:

1 - YES!

2- No swap it for a disco or defender

I did lots of research on this forum before buying my disco ( changed my mind from a range rover to a disco because of the reliabilty problems ), and if I had been considering a Freelander I would never in a million years have bought one after reading most of the post on here about them.
 
4 times same fault or different faults

From my experience of about 3 mths 02 plate TD4 auto

Theres abaout 7 faults to look out for

IRD failure - Mine replaced before i bought - Expensive
Fuel Pumps - Normally garage diagnose wrong one and end up replacing both
Maf Sensor - Easily fixed if you come on here
Rear door leaking into tool box - not the end of the world
Viscous coupling on propshaft - although not as big a issue as on earlier models
Turbo failure although reports say can be avoided by replacing Depression limiting valve & filter - Fitted mine today
Starter motors - I got mine repaired for £35
Then the normal ball joints, driveshafts wheels bearing that you can get with any 4x4
Plus i had a new autobox in prior to purchase

If you know all this has been done you have a good car

If not dig deep or hope

Any problem you do have search on here and i will bet you the cost of an IRD unit it has already been discussed:D

After all this i still love mine, Its that nervousness each time you go out i think:confused:

At least you got the reliable version being a TD4 !!
 
NO different problems,

1.HDC warning light coming on
2.Turbo hose split
3.Tailgate window regulator broke
4.turbo gone

Do does this mean i can expect more ptoblems?
I love the car it's very smart, but cant afford for it to all go wrong as have no money left!!!!

Sorry forgot about the HDC, Turbo pipe & ALL window regulaters

Over the last few weeks, I too have considered a Disco and just waiting for the other half to nod with any significance and where off
 
stay with it m8, all cars have probs from time to time. ive got a 2001 td4 with 150000 on the clock and have only had a few miner probs in nearly 2 years.There r good ones out there but like women they all need money spent on them from time to time.Good luck.;)
 
When I bought my 2003 TD4 I had a couple of problems - but this is no different to any other car I have ever bought. With these sorted by the dealer it's now six months later and have had no further problems. In my experience, all cars will have something wrong when you first get them. This is often because of the previous owner simply not noticing! Also, websites/forums like these mostly only report the bad stuff - People do not generally spend time writing things like "...just thought I'd let you know all is well in my world..." - Not unless their very lonely anyway.

In the overall scheme of things, LRs are generally less reliable than some other makes and Freelanders probably the worst of the bunch. That said, there are plenty of manufacturers with a worse record for reliability and even the best can break and cost you money (mentioning no names but we all know they're Italian). I had a 2003 Nissan X-Trail before my Freelander and it was a nightmare for things breaking. I've also had VWs and BMWs and they break too.

The key is to decide whether or not you really like the car - If you do, get these problems sorted and enjoy it.

well said that man, ive only just joined the ranks of the freelanders.. and ive had it two weeks and no problems :D see they are reliable :p 03 plate td4
 
Just think of it as a Rover instead of a Land rover. There you are, the pain has eased already. Always remember

1. Patriotism is painful and expensive.

2. LR dealerships are run by aliens who want your money so don't go near them once the warranty has expired.

I've got the poor relation L series and it's fine, as long as i think of it as a Rover.
 
If you want reliability, forget landrover altogether - and yes they really are that bad. I think LR should be forced to pay £10 000 to everyone who has ever had misfortune to buy one.
 
I know i had that one problem recently ( which turned out to be a rotor arm! lol!) but the other halfs' freeloader has had absolutely no problems at all!!

We knew the person who owned it before, took it all over france...eventually moving there hence they sold it...and it has never missed a beat! No head failure, nothing! 1.8 K series too! So i must be fair, it has been pretty good, though i was a bit daunted when she came home and said she had bought one! lol!

I've had my td4 2002 for four months, bought it privately and knew the clutch was goosed, but got it at a good price.It also crunched going into third and the other gears were sometimes lumpy.
Got the clutch done and gearbox out for repair at the same time.
Getrag box fitted and land rover do NOT sell the syncro rings to replace the goosed ones.New box at £800 odd quid quoted,+ vat.
The engineer repairing it canibalised some BMW boxes and managed to replace the rings for less than 300 quid.
now all is a ok except for the silly rubber ring round the ignition keyhole.
can these be bought or should I just put a smear of sillicone on the back of it and stick it on ?
