Well after sorting the slow top end speed and low fuel consumption a new problem has of course arisen..

My 90 with a disco 200tdi in it has never been a fantastic starter, however, after standing 3 or 4 days, even if i give it a 30 second pre-warm it still takes 15 seconds of cranking b4 it starts.

Lots of grey smoke coming out as she cranks over so fuel is getting there..i'm going to change the glow plugs but these motors should start 1st time off the key, no pre-warm so i doubt its the plugs.

Was thinking the IP is getting tired...once running its fine though, and starts 1st time when warm or a few hours later.

Any ideas gents?

Ya did a service sorta to get the top end upto scratch didn't ya, so that's out of the equation, but a few things to look at more than anything else is the good ol' battery, cold weather makes em hard to start, not sure what the weather is upto at your end of the world atm.

Tried some veg oil in her to clean through the lines abit or some injection cleaner? Could be dodgy connection on the stop solenoid as Buster says, but i'd expect some sort of weird behaviour whilst running if it was on it's way out.

Any new oil leaks anywhere?

It's pure guess work with this tbh mate until you try something

Had a new battery a month or so ago...wont be long b4 i need another one at this rate..over 800cca's too..

Tis a bit cold, hasnt really been above freezing point for a while, generally a few below but not too bad.

May throw some inj cleaner in and see how it goes..

As for stop solenoid..no idea..only leak i have is a very slight weep from the fuel return pipe on number 3..but its very slight.

.only leak i have is a very slight weep from the fuel return pipe on number 3..but its very slight.

was sumink on here a while ago about needing back pressure on the fuel return.......having said that mine started and ran quite happily while ****ing fuel all down the side of the lump

Solenoid could be sticking or summit. Clean the connector on top of it to see if that helps.
If yer return pipe is leaking, then ye'll probably get air in there.... might affect it starting. Change the copper washers or carefully nip it up a wee bit;)

Can you not pinch a piece of i.v. tubing after you've drugged up the inmates, storm? It will harden and fail but may be of use to diagnose if air is getting in through the leak-offs.

if 200 takes a lot of cranking to start either worn out low compression ,air leak on pump supply return side has no effect, return banjo in pump has restrictor to achieve self bleed and pump back pressure ,worn pump head which will not achieve full injector pressure at cranking speed, pump not advancing for start up ,or poor cranking speed,if runs fine at idle and speed
