£20-£30

You have to change the entire lock mechanism not just the barrel.

You need to centre punch the 2 shear bolts out. This is the hardest part.

Before you resort to changing the barrel have you tried wiggling the steering wheel from side to side while turning the key. It could be the steering is puttin pressure on the lock which is preventing the barrel turning.

If that fails, try a sawing motion with the key in and out the lock applying pressure first upwards and then downwards.

Hi I had something simular with my old discovery cored it by spraying wd40 into the barrel.

hi chaps gave it a squirt with the old wd40 good prod round with the key and at least it starts daren't take the key out for now but thanks guys how much do you reckon for a new lock assembly

A 2nd hand job should be 10-15 quid. If you're stuck you can remove your old one, disconnect it from the end bit where the wires are attached, and still be able to start and run the vehicle by just turning the bit left attached to the wiring. You won't have a steering lock and anyone who gets in wil be able to start it but it could get you home if your switch goes properly tits up.

hi been on to main dealer this morn new ignition assembly is 180 quid but he did warn me that there is a min 21 day delivery but they have known them only be a fortnight and that they have had some on order since october have not received them yet and they have up to 10 discos sat in the yard with no ignition switches i know there made to order and they have to have the key number but you would think they could be a littlr swifter i took key out this morning again just to see if the wd40 had done any good and had hell of a job to get it to work again thanks for advice

FFS just go on ebay and buy one..

When i had the problem i ended up using wd a few times but i found it lasted for 4 to 6 weeks then i found some grease spray in my garage gave it a good shake and sprayed some of that in. That was about 18 months ago and no problem since. The moral of the story is keep some WD40 in the car or spray grease..It worked for me...Tony
