In 1971 the indicator switch was in the right place, on the right, the wiper switch was in the right palace, on the dash board, so it made sense to mount the ignition switch on the opposite side to the indicators. I'm sure it wasn't unique in those days. Since then the other switches have moved, but the ignition switch has stayed put.

how about the series 2 was in the middle, so the series 3 was kept on that side too.

anuvva reason is if the driver gets shot - the passenger can turn it orf :(

I hate that whenever i let somone else drive, when they thrn the engine off they give the starter a burst instead.

"DONT DO THA.......!!!" GGRRCCCCCHCHHCCCCCCHHHCHCHCCHHHHHH
"Yea thanks for that. Now get the hell outa my Landy!"

scene, Belfast NI sometime in the late 70's early 80's
driving a Bedford RL 4tonner Hollywood to Long Kesh

all is going fine till we discover that if yer turn the ign off at 30MPH and pump the throttle pedal vigorously before turn ign back on. yer get a nice loud bang . do this while passing a cyclist and watch how quick he dives over the nearest wall. you can have side bets on whether he takes his bike or not.
unfortunatly we was found out when most of the fleet of RL's had a spate of burst egghost boxes and got told orf fer frightening the locals

If you think about it, when you get into the Defender you would typically open the door with your right hand, holding your keys in the left. Then you don't have to swap hands back! God, we're a lazy bunch!

Its a cunning plan ..as the government over here is trying to ban Landrovers it has to concentrate on the Left hander sales....its on the right side then

You gonna leave him hanging you nasty bugger?;) .........

well I spose he never actually asked you how to sort it.:D

ok, well i would have asked, but i found out anyhow, all working fine. i was a bit ****ed the first time i tried to turn it on, not to find the ingnition to start the thing of corse, but to find my phone somehwere on the floor. so anyway i only switched it half way and no joy and gave up at that point, so after having a look whilst sober and in the light i have discovered the wonders of a 3 way switch!
