Hi all

I've had my new Disco a month now and I'm feeling more used to it every day, thank you for your support. However, I have a few things, those in the know might be able to help with.

Model: '53 4.0 petrol auto Premium Disco.

1) When starting from cold I can hear a squealing for about half a mile - any ideas?

2) The 60% seat back has a really nasty looking series of chips in it. I assume there are 2 options, fill it - but with what? or, replace the seat back - sounds difficult and costly, but is it?

3) This is where you get a laugh, but not too loud I'm easily offended. Thanks to incorrect garage measurements (that someone else took) and my zest for something different, 'the Premium' has tubular roof rails, we now have a car which is too high to go into our garage!!!! The handbook says you can purchase a keyfob which will lower the rear of the car. Has anyone out there got this key fob and can they tell me how much it lowers the car? If a height measurement could be provided of both normal height and lowered height at the highest forward most point, probably the front of the roof rails, this would be really helpful as I don't want to pay over £110 for something that isn't going to lower the car enough to get it into the garage.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

1) Just a guess but the noise could be water pump, alternator or slack drive belt.
2) Is it the carpet like material on the seat back thats damaged? might not be too expensive to replace
3) Depends if your Disco has air suspension, if it doesn't you won't be able to lower it - have you thought of removing the roof rails?

if your disco is running air suspension, it will only be at the backend, whereas the roof rails are towards the front of the car. even if you dropped the back with a keyfob the effect on the height of the roof bars would be very little.

There are two solutions, buy a set of mini cooper wheels or move house. I would suggest moving house...

Hi all

Thanks for your repsonses so far.

The car does have air suspension, and yes the drop may not be enough, but it might just and it's definately a cheaper option than mini wheels, moving our or trenchs, although I do like the trench idea, worth considering.

More responses please, keep them coming.

Thanks everyone
Reb

True, but theres plenty of room underneath to shelter you. I could fit mine in the garage but there would be no room to do anything as you wouldnt even be able to open the doors.

Let the tyres down?

Take off the garage door and lintel (no-one in their right mind would steal a Disco)?

I like the trenches idea.

Lowering the suspension might get you IN, but suppose the brute pumped itself back up again when it was in? What would it hit?

Suppose it won't lower again? Could be stuck in your garage forever. This would be normal for a LandRover - they are always in garages anyway.

I know someone who used six Acro props to hoick his whole garage roof up in one piece, and he slipped in three or four courses of bricks under it thus raising the roof almost a foot. A swift extension on top of each garage door finished the job. Could you do this to yours?
