Identifying tyres types

Hi all, I am looking at putting some Cooper Discoverer AT3 tyres on my P38. I have found ATS selling them at a good price so thinking of going to them. As they are coming out about £80 less than everyone else, I am thinking that they are the older AT3 rather than the newer AT3 Sport (these were designed for EU regulations). My regular tyre fitters are expensive and they said that they can only get the sport model.

How can I tell if they are putting on 'AT3' Tyres or 'AT3 Sport' tyres. All the photos on line, even the Cooper web site, seem to be stock images so cannot see how a layman like myself can distinguish what is being fitted.

AT3 have an EU fuel rating of G, for the AT3 Sport its E, noise levels are different both are still speed rated at T. I would suspect the word "sport" is printed on the tyre wall somewhere, although u could look a the tyre labling before fitting, simples.

This quote may or not be of interest to you. "It is very important that you check your speed rating before buying tyres. Choosing a tyre with a lower rating than is appropriate for your car can invalidate your insurance."

I'll let u read the specifics of both tyres, as I've work to do.

I don't believe that is actually true. Space saver wheels for example are perfectly legal to run and standard on many vehicles. But all have low speed ratings.

T speed rating is 118mph. So in a country where you can legally only travel at 70mph, it doesn't really matter what the car can do.

And if you crashed at 30mph, a tyre still rated for above those speeds will not be viable as the source of fault or blame.

That was why I asking as I thought some one would have more experience. I guess that I was looking for opinions on why there was such a price diffrence compared to everyone else and wether there is a chance of being mis-sold the tyres even though it is ATS.

Both tyres are rated at 106T with a wet and fuel efficiency rating of E (accoring Cooper's data sheets) so no issues there, my diesel P38 will never get to 118mph unless driven off a cliff!

Seems (MyTyres web site) contradicts the Coopers data sheet then.
I can't see any difference in both the AT3 in my quick look at the Coopers site. The ratings for my disco's Goodyear Wrangler tyre are the same E but the speed rating is H handy for me as in the past I done a few high speed trips to Germany with the disco although now I use a my car for these trips as its faster.
I try not to hang around in the UK either "as fast as possible as slow as necessary"

I believe that AT3s supplied to EU countries will be the Sport variety.

i deal with cooper tires ill find out tomorrow,pm size etc & ill pm you cost price so you will know if your getting ripped or not

a quick read up states it was Introduced to replace the Discoverer A/T3, the Discoverer A/T3 Sport has a modified tread pattern to reduce road noise and improve handling.
