...Freelanders.

I pulled over to let a van pass the other day. He was going up a hill, but he lost momentum and started to wheel spin right next to me. The road was narrow and the tyre tracks were icy with snow in the middle. I offered to pull him up to the top of the hill. He had another go and failed to grip the road so I pulled him to the top with my Freelander. “I can’t believe that” was his comment afterwards. He apologised for not being able to offer money, but I told him it wasn’t needed. We shook hands and off he went. Didn’t take any photos but I did film it. Video below.

First time with a new camcorder - jvc ms130 - well pleased with it. Also first time using corel video software. So the videos will get better over time as I learn more about it.

The doors did stay on. :)
 
Hmmmmm don't look like much of a hill to me.

All the hippo's I seen round ere tryin sommert like that on one o our hills just go from side to side tee hee but again thats normall cos the drivers are w****** that think road tyres can do n e thing.

Managed to twice get mine stuck on a steepish drive with Pirelli Scorp STRs on - snow and ice compacted with gavel underneath. Back end just spinning around - diff lock would definately have helped. Strange but both times from a standing start and in reverse, seems better going forward - I suspect cos they are predominantly front wheel drive and it a bit like driving a rear wheel drive car up a snowy hill.

Did a 180 dec turn before i managed to get it out.

No problems on snow/ice covered roads however.

He wasn't. He was coming the other way. I turned round to pull him up. If he'd of gone back the other way, he would have had a 25% hill to get up, but only 15 foot long. That was covered in snow/ice too.

just think what you could do with a real landrover:D
 
Everybody tells me that i drive a gaylander but like yourself weve ploughed through the snow with ease and its got me up every hill.They can call it what they want but i wouldnt be with out it.
 
I have been really impressed with the freelander in the snow. Hasn't let me down and got everywhere i wanted to go. This includes going over the moors on Sunday when it hadn't been ploughed or gritted. Good fun but wouldn't have fancied getting stuck up there.

Only problem has been the ice on the roads which has been a problem for everyone. Car wouldn't stop going down the hill near my house and I ended up skidding onto the main road until I got grip. Bit of a scary moment to say the least!
 
Any vehicle with automatic traction control or auto 4wd has to better for normal snow/ice driving because, when its working correctly, it can respond much quicker and directly than with a driver operated lever.
