I was told not to buy a petrol but i wouldnt listen!

Im giving them the chance to sort the problem out. I like the car and its mint apart from this problem which they are going to sort out. I only do 5k a year.

I got really worried about what had been said on here. I know this engine can be a lemon, but i look after my cars and i think it worth a punt!

The 1.8 petrol can have its problems but its not that bad. We have had 2 in the family with no bother at all. I also have the VVC version of this engine in my MGF and thats now over the 100K mark and still sweet (reaches to touch wood;) )

Chances are its only a faulty sensor somewhere that will be easily fixed and with your low miles, the extra cost of buying and then filling up a diesel would not justify it.

Just fit a low coolant alarm to be safe.
 
low coolant capacity is the k-series aquilles heel! let that coolant anywhere near the minimum mark, and you are in dodgy terrtiory! looked after, they are very very good engines! on the flip-side, i have seen HGF at 14k
