hi folks.have just bought 2001 FL gs 1.8 petrol, for weekend use and banging around in with the kids. everywhere i read there is very little love for the k series and early freelanders but i,m up for the challenge of keeping this thing on the road for as little as possible ,would have bought later model but was lured into this one by the low price, and is good clean straight car that appears to have been looked after and good service history, head skimmed, new clutch etc. couple of problems have encountered so far are three lights on dash abs tc hd coming on on sometimes....any ideas would be greatly received, seems to drag when reversing.

Welcome!! :D:D:D

1. Freelanders drag on reverse and on hard lock. Its part of the transmissions features. If it don't drag on reverse and full lock then start to cry as its going to get expensive.

2. Search on here for "The three amigos" to answer the problem about the three warning lights. A very common problem. There are some fixes.

3. Watch that coolant level like a hawk. Some people swear by the K series. Most people swear at them. They are not a good lump and the Freelander pushes them a bit too hard, so to make them even more unreliable.

4. Ensure you have a large pot of cash that you want to get rid of. Your Freelander will do that job nicely.

5. You're going to get grief for A) owning a Freelander and B) owning a petrol one. You're going to have to live with that I'm afraid. Thick skin required.

Good luck and welcome to Freelander land!! :D:D:D

The K series is like marmite, you'll either love it or hate it. I love my K series but i hate marmite. just look after it and keep an eye on everything and you should be fine.

snigger much as it pains me to say- if and when you end up **** creek without a paddle.
I'm not a million miles away.

Top man Fanatic!! On the assumption that all Landies are equally unreliably then I'm sure the favour will be offered back. Your V8 being towed home by a 1.8 Freebee. Oh the shame......

guess what its started falling to pieces already, horn relay gone, had rac out once so far earth strap came loose and no spanners on me theres a lesson learnt, then yesterday wife managed to break cable for rear window, but on the plus side my 7yr old daughter wants to help mend me things on it ,either lots of "quality time" or she will get fed up very soon. and thanks fanatic for the offer.

can't believe you bought a petrol, for fun, drive somewhere secluded burn it,tell police it was stolen and then buy a td4 with the insurance,if you get caught the fine will still be less than your going to spend.
