As it did not rain today it seemed rude not to put on some old clothes and get some bits done on the Landy.
My job list was simple.
Got covered in lots of rancid water as it eventually fell off.
I recon it must have been pretty full, and maybe never been emptied.
Bowl cleaned up and replaced with new seal.
Fuel filter change and off for a test drive.
Seems a bit better but still a little stuttery and the idle is still a little rough.
I think I will try some of the more expensive fuel additive injector cleaners from Halfords when I next add fuel, which will be BP Ultimate. I am determined to get it running a smooth as possible.
Then Onto the ABS.
I know from a previous attempt that the problem was in the front. I had cured it for a few miles after cleaning a load of mud from the front nearside sensor.
This time I found that the sensor on the Near side was slightly higher than the other, so I used an open ended 10mm over the sensor and tapped it down. It went fairly easily a couple of mm down.
Quick test drive and ABS light went out as it should.
I love a quick and cheap fix.
While checking I noticed a couple of things. The front discs were different widths.
The Front Near Side was 13mm wide, but the Off side front was only 10mm wide. Has someone fitted a wrong disc in the past? The wider one is definately new with no lip at all, but the Off Side is not worn that much, maybe not as new, but not very worn.
The other thing I need to sort for an MOT is the rear dampers. The bottom on the N/S is just rattling around and the rubbers are just not doing anything.
I also noticed that there should be rubber blocks above the rear axle on each side but one of mine is missing rubber block.
I am thinking of selling it as I am totally skint, so dont know if to fit rear dampers. It has an MOT and a new buyer might prefer to fit a 2" higher springs and dampers, leaving a new set of dampers as a waste of money.
I just so glad the ABS is sorted as that was my biggest worry as it would make the disco worth so much less, as buyers dont know how much they would have to spend to fix it.
When I collected this one I did wonder if I had made a mistake (Ebay purchase) as the brakes were crap, the ABS light was on, the engine was lifeless and it was generally dirty inside.
Its no beauty queen, but after a few weekends work and some sensible advice on this forum its 100% better and is now such a pleasure to drive.
My job list was simple.
- Remove fuel sedimentor and empty it of water
- Change fuel filter
- find out why ABS light would not go out
- clean remaining mud from the brakes after last Saturdays cleaning session
