Whoops. After umming and arrring I took the plunge and a bought silvery beige(?) T reg Freelander 1.8 XEi.

Some may think I'm mad, but for £1500 I don't think it's the biggest gamble ever. The HG, timing belt and water pump were all done less than 2 years ago.

I've already got a few things to do:

HDC light is on - hoping this is the wiring.
The driver's side rear door doesn't unlock with the central locking, but can be opened from inside.
There is no load cover - ebay here we come unless someone on here has one for sale?
The throttle was sticking occasionally at 3k rpm - some WD40 followed by some 3 in 1 seems to have sorted this for now? Could this be related to the HDC light?
The spare looks flat.

I'll put some pics on later. :)

I may still have my old load cover in my dads garage in the UK (done a van conversion since then), and i'm heading back for two weeks in two days. Where are you based?

As for the HDC light, unscrew the gear knob and lift off the switch body from the stick. The two wires going to the switch can sometimes break from the solder, and if they're touching, will cause the HDC to be permanently on. It won't do any damage though for the time being.

Well done for biting the bullet, hope your freeby is a good one.

drivers side rear door lock will undoubtedly be a failed lock solenoid, I assume it locks okay using the fob ?

welcome to the forum, you may get some abuse, but the help is here too.

So you bought it in the end:)

HDC - hopefully just a faulty switch (from memory is it on the gear stick?) disconnect the wires to the switch and see if the light goes out.

Central locking - get the door card off and see if you can adjust the mechanism and lubricate the solenoid with silicon spray, chances are though it will need a new solenoid.

I have a grey load cover for a five door kicking around in my shed its a bit grubby but servicable. where abouts are you based?

Cheers,

I'm based not far from Manchester, technically my address says I'm in Cheshire, but not the posh bit - daddy never bought me a horsey. :D

Freebiker,

How much do you want for the load cover?

The main reason I want it is to hide the sub I'm going to be putting in there along with some other bits as I love my music! I see you've upgraded your ICE - did you document the build any where on t'internet? Have you got any pics of the sub install? I'm going to start a new thread if you want to post in that?

Cheers.

I've left my landy behind in Ireland as i'm back over on my motorbike but can get some pics of my sub when i'm back in Ireland in two weeks. Kept the standard grills on the speakers so not really got anything to take photos of as far as they're concerned.

Have a look on ebay or somewhere and see how much the load covers are going for... i'll happily take anything around that for it. My dad will just be glad to get it out his garage lol.
