I have a seized up Husky Super Winch and wish to remove it with a view to repairing it hopefully, am i right in thinking it is mounted by four bolts through the bottom and that's it? The winch guide rollers, are they removable by undoing the circlip and sliding out thus enabling removal of winch cable and winch? if not is it a case of cutting winch cable as the clasp on the end will not fit through the rollers gap.

Easiest is to unspool it by attaching it via a rope to something solid and reversing while the winch is in freespool (If Huskies have freespool). Even if you only have limited space, just do it a few times taking up the slack each time .. :)

with the help of a lot of wd40 it went into free spool, first break ive had all day, un-spooled the wire, took it right off and then managed to get all the bolts undone and with the grill off managed to lift it out, think the motors shot but there doesn't appear to be anything coming from the solenoids even though there's a good click when operated. Anyway its near the work bench now and with my arms rested, (arthritis, feel so bloody old), it will be up on there tomorrow and stripped down. any advice welcome, will most definaetly go for a change of motor, didn't want to have to do the solenoids as well as they are bloody awkward to get at but will probably to get it right.. met a guy from a company that does winches at stoneleigh last week nothing seemed too expensive....

Well it is off, should have made a note of which wire went to which part of the winch I have since discovered,, currently know which is F1 but after that the other two are guess work, didnt want to have go into the solenoid box

and there you have it, the motor, probably the MAIN reason my winch was not working, new one ordered with oil and grease to suit .

It's back on wound nice and tight, fitted a Bowmotor which went reasonably ok until it came to the mount, there is an eartJ on the base of the Bowmotor which sits about 10 mm out of place and throws a whole can of worms up in the air which involved drilling and cutting the winch mount, much swearing later and the motor works great, New oil gaskets grease and a promise to run the cable at least monthly should be good for a while. Very pleased the solenoids were ok.
