Hi All,

over the weekend my and my mate put a replacment TD5 Engine in my disco and thought " well done" when we goit it running. but now i have a problem... the central locking isnt working, neither are the idicators rear windows and a few other little bits. im thinking we may have missed an earth strap.. does anyoine know where the earth for these are located? thanks guys

There are two multi connection earths on the drivers side inner wing, just behind fuse box, did you just change the engine or did you change ecu etc

If youve a pre 2003 disco and replaced with a posts 2003 emgine you may need the ECU adjusted.

Earth straps probable cause of your prob though - I agree with Chrismb

hi
ireplaced the engine with a 2001, as was the car... im thinking that it may be a problem with the fuse box inside the car.. it was parked up for a month before i did the work and has developed a another fault.. what looks like a B is flashing on the dash next to the trip milage. its is also BONG-ing lol three times when i turn it on.. put it on a test book the other day and it was showing nothing ????

Hmm Don't worry about the BONG-ing 3 times as it is supposed to do that as stated in the hand book...Tony

that's not good....last time when i saw this it was a bad contact issue within the BCU....i had to work on it with a soldering gun.

try the following trick ... disconnect all the plugs from the fusebox(the interior one)..this one includes the IDM(intelligent driver module).....put them back, turn ignition on pos II and leave it so for 5 mins.

To understand why

IDM outputs
The IDM receives the following signals from the BCU using the serial datalink to provide power outputs:
Description Signal type System
Unlock all doors enable Digital Locking/ Unlocking/ Alarm
Lock passenger and rear doors enable Digital Locking/ Unlocking/ Alarm
Superlock all doors enable Digital Locking/ Unlocking/ Alarm
Lock driver's door Digital Locking/ Unlocking/ Alarm
Rear fog lamps enable Digital Exterior lighting
Daylight running lamps enable Digital Exterior lighting
LH direction indicators enable Digital Direction indicators/ Hazard warning/ Alarm
RH direction indicators enable Digital Direction indicators/ Hazard warning/ Alarm
Gear position indicator illumination Digital Illumination
Headlamp main beam indicator disable Digital Illumination
Front wiper enable Digital Wipers and washers
Rear wiper enable Digital Wipers and washers
Rear window enable Digital Power windows
Shift lever solenoid enable Digital Automatic gearbox
Transfer box solenoid enable/ Alarm sounder
relay
Digital Gearbox
Heated rear window enable Digital Heated screens

To make sure the comunication beween this and the BCU havent failed(it happens)...after that u can go further with the diagnose >>

IDM
The IDM is integrated into the passenger compartment fuse box, which is mounted behind the fascia below the steering column. There are no harnesses between the fuse box and the IDM. The IDM performs the power switching operations for several of the vehicle's electrical systems.
The IDM communicates with the BCU and the instrument pack via a serial interface. If the BCU or the IDM is replaced, the communications link between the two units has to be re-established. This can be done either by switching on the ignition and leaving it on for five minutes, or by using TestBook. The vehicle immobilisation will remain active until the communications link between the BCU and IDM has been re-established.

Will this work with a 2004 DiscO II? When you suggest "unplugging the IDM", I assume you mean disconnecting the entire interior fuse box (temporarily). Can this be done while the car is connected to the battery?

Thanks!

it will work on any D2, but it's better with the battery disconnected... if you dont know your radio code you may need it anyway if you unplug the whole fusebox(cos that's what you must do)... but dont wait for miracles ... you have to be very lucky to "escape" just with this trick...unless you dont find corrosion or water ingress which could be cured with some contact spray
