Someone is talking doo doo!! The nuts loosen in the normal direction, ie left to loosen ;)
Unless they are rusty (not often) you won't need any release fluids. Just knock the stake out of the groove in the shaft. Use a 32mm socket on a breaker bar, add a couple of feet of stout tube. Turn the nut by pushing down on the breaker as this pushes the wheel into the ground, this reduces the chance of the wheel slipping!! It's an easy job to do ;)

Hello,

Nodge68 is spot on..

I had to change the hubnut on the rear offside.. (don't ask!!).

Normal anticlockwise to undo.. original nut is 32mm. Some replacements are 36mm.

I broke several 1/2" sq drive tools (well, I do buy shi&e).. Bit the bullet and bought a 3/4" sq drive tommy bar and socket. This fits OK through the hole in the wheel centre.

Unfortunately, a 36mm socket doesn't.

I had to use a 4 foot length of pipe on the tommy bar to shift the little bu&&er!

Just make sure the gearbox is in neutral..

Bodge99.

A quality breaker will be ok. I tend to use a buzz gun for speed, but the long bar works well.

Mines a machine mart special and it's taken some hammer over the years, I could stand on it one footed when I was 21st to crack wheel nuts ;):D

Mines a Halfords one. Had it a little out of shape once before undoing the rear hub nut on my Elise and that's about 230 torqued up.

Some Halfords stuff is very good so you should be ok. The Freelander hubs are pretty much the same as the Elise anyway ;)

I used a 32mm 3/4" drive socket with a 36 inch 3/4 breaker bar with a 6 feet steel pipe overtop on mine (used as a cheater bar). Some folks have drilled theirs axle nuts instead of removing them since they replace them.

Drilling may be the easier option then. Do you just drill it to destruction or just a few well placed holes to ease the grip?
