How to use diff lock affectively

Hi,
I`ve just bought a 1988 90TDi and have no idea how and when to use the diff lock and whether to be in low or high etc etc, especially as we are snowed in and i`m desperate to go play!!!
Any help will be gratefully received or links etc...

Hey Roy, and welcome.

I believe that this may have been covered once or twice on the forum. Have a search and see what it come up with.

As for high or low ratios, it reminds me of when a mate's sister asked what gear she should be in to go up a big steep hill. Answers on a postcard please!

Thanx guys...think i`ve figured it....diff lock in low for deep snow??

whean driving on snow or ice high range with difflock engaged is best higher gears mean less spinning of wheels.

yes but only if 2nd high & difflock on has failed. and then it needs a gentle right foot or you'll spin the wheels and bury yaself even more.
