How to drop rear glass

Hi all,

Got a bit of an issue with my rear window. It worked fine when I test drove the car before I picked it up, a week later it doesn't work. This means I can't open the rear door.

I got the door card off, all cables look good and I can't see anything a miss.

@andyfreelandy posted a link to his thread about the hall effect sensor, which I have purchased (52p). But I am struggling to get the motor/mechanism out as I can't get to the glass clamps without dropping the window a touch... Does anyone know of a way that may possibly let me drop the glass?

Does the Fob Key near the door handle not trigger the window to drop while keeping your finger on.Also switch toggle can fail causing and fuses can pop. Check or replace fuse first. the toggle switch can be swapped with a console on the cubby box. Does the door handle work okay to release the door as they can become stuck.

You can loosen glass clamps without dropping glass, you just have to use a flat spanner and go in from under the top metal strip on the rear door.

Disconnect the battery for a minute or two.

When you reconnect the glass should drop.

Also if you have the card off can you not undo the lower fixings of the regulator? That should you allow to gently tip the glass inwards to get the door open.

Much easier to work on with the door open.

The door handle is actually not fitted currently as it is all snapped off, I'm just about to bond some new bolts into it. Pulling the handle, nothing happens at all. The microswitch clicks but nothing from the window/door.

If I have ignition on and operate the centre console switch, I can hear the relay clicking in the rear strut cover area.

I will give the battery idea ago, guess it may have become confused about it's it's location and just stopped...


My driver's door window is doing the same.. fitted a new motor and regulator and it still won't move..

Tried doing the battery thing, no movement at all.. think the motor or something is goosed (hopefully this sensor)

Regulators complete with motor are not too expensive and save lots of faffing around.

£75 is cheapest I have found..

I will try and get the inner rubber out to see it I can get to the glass clamps that way.

Popped the seal out, no way you can get in to undo the window grips.

Since disconnecting the battery, it now beeps when I try to drop the window. Relay is still clicking. Obviously need to do the calibration, but it can't if the motor won't move I guess!

Well I managed to get the motor into a position where I could remove the motor body exposing the windings. I wound it Thinking I could drop the window by hand, two turns in a loud crack, the motor came out along with a mass of frayed wire! Plugged the motor in and it ran perfectly. Wahoo!! New regulator and that's it.

Also. Incase this helps anyone in the future..

Unplugging the window motor allows the door latch to operate, you can then jiggle the window past the seal to open the door.

Fitted the new regulator today, all went well.

However, when closing the door, the glass misses the groove that it should raise up into. It either hits right on the edge of the groove, or misses completely and the window raises on the outside of the trim. I have messed about with the adjustment on the bottom bolts but nothing seems to help. I had to take the window out so jiggle stuff about, wondering if there is some sort of other guide that the window may have missed?

I've had similar issues and had to do a combination of bending the brackets and adjusting the bottom screws to their max.

Hmmm, joy.. I presume bottom brackets at max extension to point the top in..
