Hey Chaps,

Found out that I need to replace the clutch - '02 Defender TD5 - now how much should I expect to be paying for the parts + labour?

Had quotes between £500 (poor quality parts and bad work ethic from what ive heard) - £1500 (high quality parts, and good work).

What kind of price should I be looking at?

Obviously I know I need to get a new clutch, flywheel and clutch release arm....

Anyone know any decent garages that use high quality parts round South London/North Kent?

Before anyone says do it yourself, it really isn't something I have the slightest ability in doing!!

decent new dmf and clutch kit £350 -£400 plus fitting £300 ish maybe more in some places, you wont need release arm they use the same cast one as series and v8s,spigot bush (8566l)is worth changing

Sounds a little better.

Now is it possible to replace the dual mass flywheel with a traditional solid one?

All i keep hearing is they are a damn nightmare and very unreliable.

it is but i wouldnt, dmf s arent unreliable at all but they do protect engine and transmission from the harsh torque and provide smoother power

Listen to what JM says. A lot of development went into the DMF. Solid setups merely transmit vibrations that would have been damped by the DMF to other parts of the transmission not designed to cope with them for extended periods.
