I'm thinking of freshening up my lady with a couple of coats. This is not going to be a bare-metal respray, just going to sand her down and put on maybe a couple of coats of paint and a couple of coats of clear. At least that's what I think at this stage, will have to educate myself a little first.

Couple of questions, first, is there anything special to bear in mind as I'm painting aluminium panels and not steel and does anyone have any idea how much paint I'm likely to need?

Any other tips or hints?

Cheers!

Do you have a warm garage that is clean and dust free?

Home spraying an entire car is a mammoth task and you will need to be very skilled to achieve a decent finish.

Panel patches, or small repaired areas are one thing as you can use products to blend the colour in, and buff out any imperfections....an entire car is a different kettle of fish....

I wish you well with it, but research is your friend on what is involved.

If you take it back to metal, to remove any corrosion or oxidation, you will need etch primer, as saint said, mammoth task, maybe you should practice on something first, even if its too make sure ya paints don't react, and ban silicon dash dressing from ya garage, thats paints enemy :D

Thanks guys. Know its a big job. Have a couple of panels will practice on and a "mentor" to rescue if things all turn to goop! :p Just trying to estimate how much paint to order from the colour match place as I want it all made in a single batch.

Saint I've access to a proper paint-room courtesy the mentor and Chris, not bare metal, just going to sand the present finish down and start from there. No major dings although there is a bit of a depression in the NS rear quarter panel which I think can be pulled.

You dont have to take it back to the mettle, you can use a cover spray that will neutralise whatever is under that coat
