Following on from my non starting and fuel pump problem I have fitted a new pump (under o/s rear wheel arch)

The car is running fine but I wondered, if you turn the ignition on without starting - how long should the pump run before cutting out, mine goes on for about 30 seconds which is longer than I remember but its not something I paid much attention to!

30 seconds is fine, Ive had twice that without any issues.

It's not only dependant on the pump condition but also the amount of any injector leak off.

Hi, I have an MY02 TD4 with two fuel pumps (one in the tank and one under the bonnet)and it takes 60 seconds for the pumps to stop. I have no issues with starting and it runs very well. (Oh dear - what have I said???????????) Eric.

..so if it runs constently with out stopping, does it indicate duff pump(s) or duff pressure switch.

How can one test the pressure switch?

What running issue would a duff pressure switch cause?

Thanks

bout 10-30secs is normal it has to hit the pressure switch before it turns off :) :) :)
As far as i understand it has two pressure sets first turns off pump or pumps second if pressure keeps going up sticks a warning code up [and a valve diverts fuel back to the tank] you also can have a low pressure signal [this also will set an alarm and if its on for some time will setup the mill light [and get you home mode]. . . . . .any hows this is all in the engine management coding [software] so to cut to the chase , first check your fuel filter, then each low pressure pump [one in the tank normally go's first] and if its happens for some time second pump could go weak, also a fuel leak could kick up problems and the diverter valve not working correctly, oh and one that i nearly forgot is the pumps or pump is operated via a relay check that this is working correct [ie if its jammed on pumps will run all the time] . . . . .hope this helps :)
