Hi
TDV6 2.7 diesel.
I set out on this project to see if it would be possible for a human to understand the operation of the high pressure fuel pump .
I identified that the supply to the two regulating valves on the HPFP were both fed from a common supply from the ECU (engine control module)
Since these valves independently control both the volume and pressure characteristics from the pump into the into the Common Rail it raised a few questions.
The return path of both valves goes back to the ECU. With the ignition on the simple voltage of each valve is battery voltage via chassis earth. There is not a return path to the ECU
Upon starting both valves show having a return path thro the ECU ( glow lights indicate)
The obd connected analyser shows 40v max pulsed to both valves on cranking.
My issue is I cant get any rail pressure. I will work thro the pressure leakage paths but i need to understand more about the ECU operation. I know that the ECU takes in all manner of sensor info and works out the best rail pressure to match by sending variable pulsed energy to each valve . How can I check when the system says the pulsed voltage is applied to the valves that they are actually physically working??
Is this a such complex issue that only a non human resource can answer and is that why Land Rover can justifiably charge me for £1600 for a space age commodity. If so I have failed in my quest to beat the AI and we are all doomed.
Answers on a post card please !!
