hi hope someone can give me a little advice. i've got a defender 110 csw 3.5 v8. wanting to change engine to a 300 tdi. just wanting to know if it's straight forward to change log book to diesel with dvla. and how you go about with insurance company. it's insured now as a 3.5 v8. do you cancel that policy and renew with someone else?. just like to get it all sorted in my mind lol. if someones done this lately.would be great to hear how it went. many thanks in advance. dave. :):)

usually just change the vehicles details with the existing insurer, by the time they have worked everything out, unless yer only a month or two in, the cancellation charges etc end up costing more than keeping the policy going.
the only way of cancelling with no charges is if they decline to insure your modified vehicle.

tell insurance about the mods, my insurance hasnt gone up at all (for the engine change your biggest problem is getting a good r380 gearbox!)

hi lr110. what insurance are you with?. if you don't mind me asking. rang mine today and they said no they wouldn't take it if i changed the engine. i renewed insurance in march. cheers dave

its sureterm direct through lancaster insurance, it also covers green laning breakdown etc, but like i said, find a gearbox first! i bought a second hand one for £300 then got it rebuilt for £400 as it broke! other things you will need is a transfer box, transmission tunnel and radiator/intercooler in the correct cage.

but mine now looks stock, if you need help just ask
