Hi,

Owned various Lightweights and Defenders most of my driving life, current vehicle is a 95' Defender CSW 300TDi, which after many years faithful service is currently getting a full rebuild and engine change to 3.9 EFi V8. (yes, many may think it's madness, but I don't do big mileage in it anymore, and whilst the 300 TDi is a good lump, you can't beat the V8 rumble!)

I'll no doubt be on with many questions, and maybe a few answers as well ..... (after 30 odd years taking them to bits, you have to have learnt something? surely? :D )

Cheers

John

Welcome:)

I could not agree more V8 has that “I gotta have it sound” go for it and post pics once you get started

Everyday a school day, sometime we are pupils, sometimes we are teachers:)

Enjoy the zone:)

Welcome aboard.

Gotta love a V8..

You gonna put a cam in the V8?

A rebuild?

I'd start a Build thread If i was u ;)

Yep, currently just completed stripping the donor engine and about to start getting the machine shop work done on it. On the surface of it, it looks like a solid unit .... time will tell though.
Took a bit of time sourcing all the right bits (correct bellhousing for the r380 etc). I'll start a thread on it in due course.

Something about the V8, it just sound right for a Land Rover, in many ways it's not the best engine (rover V8), but folk usually smile when you mention it! :)

A legendary motor that has stayed with LR it's whole working life, so i'd say yes its the definative LR motor IMHO ;)

Welcome to the V8 addiction!
I have to agree with your comment, there's just something about a V8 in a Landy that I find irresistible. The power and torque, no great shakes by modern standards but still shifts a Landy well enough, the smoothness and that sound..... it still sends tingles down my spine
I've had two factory 3.5 V8s (90 & 110), a 3.9 Efi RRC and now a converted 2.5 petrol 90 with a Disco 3.5 V8 Efi and RRC ZF4HP22 auto box :D
Being semi-retired and using it as a runabout I can manage the running costs; it's worth every penny!
