how do you adjust pas stering box,

hello, i have slight play on the stering box, often heard that you can adjust the amount of play, 4inch max for mot. have looked all arround the pas box for large nut to loosen with screw inside to adjust free play, cant find. mine is 96 disco, am i blind or is there different boxes fitted to some. am i looking for the right thing. many thanks for your thoughts:eek:

The nut and inner screw are on top of the steering box. To adjust do the following, put an allen key in the screw, then a spanner on the locknut. Ensure that you have the screw really well secured before you undo the nut - this is really important as you will only be making VERY small adjustments.

Once the locknut is slackened off, then turn the screw about 1/8 of a turn and hld securely whilst you tighten the locknut. The test drive - is it ok or does it need more??

If you go too far you'll find that the steering will get knotchy.

Do very small adjustments at a time and you should find that almost all the play in the steering box can be taken away.
