Hi all

After my recent post about my dodgy starter motor - i have been having a go at getting it off the disco. I have all the main bolts loosened, I came to removing the battery -ve and as soon as I did a bloody great alarm sounded in the engine bay. Reconnect it and it stops!

So, what the hell is powering it? And how do I stop it - i was planning on sending starter away for a refurb but can't if i can't leave the battery disconnected.

Any thoughts?

It seems that Your car is fitted with a BBUS(battery backed up sounder).....not all Disco's are

see this>

The BBUS is located behind the rear quarter trim panel on the right hand side of the vehicle and is utilised as an additional alarm warning device. It has a self contained power source allowing it to operate when the vehicle battery is disconnected.
NOTE: Always disarm the BBUS before carrying out any procedures related to the BBUS.

Seems It worked because one of it's settings is to alarm a mislock

Mislock
Mislock alerts the driver that a failed attempt has been made to lock the vehicle because of the doors or the bonnet
not being fully closed.
There are six audible configurations for mislock:
l No audible warning.
l Alarm sounder.
l Vehicle horn.
l Alarm sounder and vehicle horn.
l BBUS.
l Alarm sounder, vehicle horn and BBUS.

It scared the s**t outa me too once.

That's the proof that yur alarm is not working well cause it remained armed even if u disarmed it from the fob.....or didnt u?........it wasnt in UNLOCKED mode.......the alarm treated it like a mislock I think

Turn the starter switch on and then off and remove the key.
Disconnect the battery within 15 seconds.
If the siren sounds when reconnecting disarm the alarm system with the fob and turn the starter switch to position 2.
Job done :)
It's not a mislock it's because the permanant charging supply has been removed from the sounder, your lucky your battery still is functioning, mine packed up years ago. :)
