How did this happen......

Yet again I've got to the stage where I've outgrown my toolbox, the one on the right is the new addition. Probably pushing 25 years old but it's in fantastic condition. It's 4ft wide 6ft tall and 2ft deep. It's filling up nicely but I'm sure I'll run out of room again at some point. I think it's an extension on the garage next though

I did have three of them krls but ended up selling two and swapping the last for a truck ... now ive got rubble buckets for my tools

Believe me, I'm not showing off. If I'd saved all my money I could have bought a terraced house instead!!!

I keep telling myself I don't need anymore spanners etc, but then I see something, ahh that will be useful, if I don't buy it, I will need it within the next week! So I buy it just in case!

i'm exactly the same, i can't buy an individual tool either, i always have to buy the set

going round boot fares is fatal, seeing the tool stall and all them little spanners etc, which u think will come in handy, the boxes soon fill up

I've just had a blitz on my carry-around tool box. Took out about 10lb of AF spanners. Still carrying metric and whitworth, plus BA and some other oddities, but at least I can lift it now!

Nice I'm long overdue a bigger box, but couldn't afford snap on money for a big box.

I cant understand how some people have so many tools!? Ive got a toolbag and a decent 200piece socket set i carry around in the storage chest in my 90. And ive not come across a job i couldnt do with what i carry?

it's usually a case of tools that will speed up or make jobs easier or tools you just couldn't do the job without, i probably have five drawers of manufacturer specific tools. then there's all the test equipment, cooling system, compression, oil pressure, hydraulic pressure, air pressure the list goes on and on.

having such varied mechanical jobs over the last 20 years, different jobs have required much different tool sets and I never get rid of any of them. I could have been working on a chainsaw with 1/4 drive in the morning and a 4x4 mercedes cement truck or volvo 360 using 3/4 or 1in drive in the afternoon. If any of the plant went down the company was losing money so making do using just a few basic tools could have cost in the long run. modern technology has really helped with battery tools being almost as good as air these days especially out in the field.

saying that, i neither drink nor smoke and tools are my thing, all of my hobbies are mechanical. i look at my toolkit now and am proud of it. I've spent far less over the years than a smoker or someone who goes down the pub a few imes a week. I also buy all my home improvement tools to save money and do things myself rather than paying someone else to do jobs. again, I buy the best tools i can afford, sometimes they will do the job better but usually last longer. i feel it's a false economy to buy junk.

Now I'm off the tools and doing a completely different job, I'll buy tools because I want them.

Tool kits just seem to expand, I guess it depends what you do. I generally buy tools to make the job easier.
For example I have bought several types of hydraulic pullers within the last year or so, bearing, blind, 2/3 leg etc... All just to allow me to rebuild my own gearboxes/transfer box. Something I never envisaged doing when I started out.
Luckily I no longer have a snap on man, or I guess I'd spend even more

Is it ok to have a man crush on someone with loads of tools?...
