Series 3 High Torque Starter Thingy

It has been suggested that I replace my buggered starter solenoid with a high torque starter thingy (my technical vocabulary hasn’t improved!)

Any thoughts or comments?

You could, but the standard starters are absolutely fine. If it's slow to start you've either got a starter and/or its wiring problem or the engine needs a bit of love.

The high torque starters are a nice bit of kit and push out more torque for less weight so they are very popular on tuned engines but I doubt a std series engine would see much difference. They draw less current when they first turn over so they allow a manufacturer to use thinner starter wire but you've probably got nice thick cables anyway.

If the starter is "lazy" i.e. It's slow to turn the engine it's knackered. You can get a swop replacement for about £70-80.

My high torque one is great. The standard starter is fine for most of the year but it is poor in very cold weather. So, if it stands outside and you drive it in the snow and ice I'd upgrade.

As ever, many thanks for the responses. Decision made to go for the high torque. It won't be a daily driver and will stand outside so I think that any advantage I can gain is worth it.
