Hi guys im not really a newbie was on the forum a year or two back had a bad smash on a bike and have no idea what email etc was used, but now recovered an looking for a P38 i no i no first advice dont lol i was looking around cash wise ive about £2000 looking for something that needs a little work bloody loads but the thing that keeps cropping up is the old pourus/clacked block or sliped liner sinareo and although id rather not have the issue from what ive read/remember there is not sure fire dodge to get away with my budget so i want a plan b for if the worst should happen ive got a quote for £1700+vat to recondition my engine with 60,000mile or 5 year warrenty from reconditioned engines.co.uk has anyone used them befor im a considering buying a p38 with the block issue letting them sorted and them im safe for 60,000 or 5 year more likey the latter does this make sence or am i loosing whats left of my mind

I'd suggest you don't buy a p38, a diesel disco may be a more affordable bet as p38 get really expensive really quick

get a diesel L322 - they look much nicer :p:p:p

That's a matter of opinion, I think the rear end looks heavy and unbalanced plus the rear lights look like cheap and nasty boy racer add ons:boxing:plus why spend £10K on an L322 with all it's expensive faults when you can get a P38 for £3 to £4K with much cheaper faults:rolleyes:

hehe we all have our own thoughts - i dont dislike the p38 but compared to the new shape they look sooo dated in shape and in the interior :p

only my opinion :D

we're all range rover owners either way ! lol

true but a disco of similar spec and year are out of my buget and looks wise imho not as nice i no others will diss agree but thats me

what sort of age p38s are you looking at for under 2k? you could get a nice late 300tdi es/xs disco for that money and have lots of change left over.

been looking at a 99 plate with 54,000 miles 4.0 ltr no leather or sunroof but sunroofs leak and break and leather i can add later looks pretty good just gotta get my van mot'd and sold should give me 2.5k £500 for emergancies that are comming i can sence that stuff or maybe ive been reading threds on here i dunno lol

i've done what you are thinking of doing. i paid 1k for the car plus 800 for a recon motor, the car is a 2000 4.0 hse in a good colour oxford blue full leather etc etc,its worth doing especially if you can do the work yourself if not its gets very expensive very quickly and do your homework before jumping in with both feet and eyes closed because if you do i hope your pockets are deep

hi clarkie i do alot of work on bike complete rebuild motor up just got geared up to rebuild a v8 my self especialy the top hat liners etc but other wise im sorted i love tinkering with cars van etc p38 will keep me busy lol

you'll be ok then go for it mate, just remember everything is 3 time heavier than a bike,

btw,just rebuilt a mk1 bandit 1200 meself,xjr1300's are a favorite tho:D
