Hi All,

Having lurked around the site for a while as a visitor I thought I'd take the plunge and join in the fun! Similar I guess to most new members I do have a few questions that I'd very much appreciate your views on.

The car is a 1996 Disco 1 300TDI auto with 159K on the clock. I've had the car over 11 years, during which time its been very well serviced (23+ stamps in the book + innumerable additional oil & filter changes) only using genuine LR parts (filters, etc). Apart from normal wear & tear items (brakes, exhausts, tyres, etc) the only real repair has been to replace the autobox with a reconditioned 'box this summer after the torque converter went down. The car is mainly used as a second car (for the missus) and pulling a caravan.

Re: my questions the car seems to be loosing a little power of late. Having already removed the EGR, cleaned out the intercooler & fitted silicone intercooler hoses none of the above seems to have made any real difference. I'm now thinking of de-catting it and, possibly, fitting a larger intercooler and having it chipped (although I'm worried about it starting to smoke as it doesn't smoke at all at the moment).

Having read some excellent posts on the forum re: increasing a 300 TDI's power I've also read about changing the lift pump and cleaning out the sendimentor. Given this where is the sedimentor (and how do I clean it out) and how can I diagnose whether the lift pump is faulty? Also, re: the intercooler / chip mods I'm only after around 20 - 30BHP (to get it something near to / just above a standard TD5 output. A friend of mine (a Shogun owner) has suggested to me that all I need to do is to alter the turbo to gain a little more boost. Given these choices (and my objective) which way would you guys go and why??

Many thanks in advance for your advice!

Many thanks for the link Blue Beasty.

Having read the threads I'me becoming more interested in the adjustable resistor method of turning up the fueling (as compared to chipping it). However I might fit a EGT before doing anything as I don't want to melt the pistons whilst dragging my caravan halfway up a French Alp!

Re: finding out about why it's loosing power I guess its partly entitled to this through sheer mileage & age. However I have been thinking about replacing the injectors (which have certainly had nothing done to them over the last 70K+ miles). Could this be worth a shot? In also hearing about putting two stoke oil in the diesel as an additive how much should I put in?? (5cc's / gallon or more??).

Thanks

Dunno if 2 stroke will help with power but certainly helps run more smoothy/quietly and many say reduces smoke (which may be an issue if you tweak your pump).

I use 200:1 blue, mineral 2stroke oil
