Mrs had the defender for the day and now it won't start!

I can unlock it with the fob (52 plate TD5 so has the rover alarm/immobiliser) but get in, insert the key dash lights light up, fuel pump kicks in etc but I get a flashing red engine management light with a lightning bolt through it and it won't start.

Guessing immobiliser hasn't switched off????? Any ideas????

Thanks in advance!

How long between unlocking it and trying to start the engine? If I unlock my TD5 110, load up other seats, luggage etc and then put key in ognition I get same symptoms as you. Press unlock once again on key fob and everything is OK. In the handbook it talks about the immobiliser re-setting after 20 secs if the engine isn't started.

Cheers Taz, yeah doing as per normal and switching ignition on straight away. Got towed home in the end and my mechanic mate is speaking to his alarm man....hopefully getting the alarm and imobiliser ripped out on the weekend!

Jerry - I know what your saying but the serious lack of valentines gift meant I have a period of doing as I'm told + she needed it to cover some one else at work which meant extra pennies!!

Doodle bug - as well as the standard fit alarm I have road cat 1 installed. It works separately from the factory fitted one. I have been a victim of car crime so have as much security as I can (had my own car and work car stolen the same night!!)

Have the crap factory one removed and keep the cat 1 is the plan!!
