Help, write off decisions.

The landrover is in Westbury (the police, who were brilliant...and loved the landy, had it removed to their place and the insurers took it from there to westbury). Its not so far away....a stones throw really.

Borrowing a trailer won't help....the thing we'd pull it with is what we need to bring home :D

And no, I won't ask for pink, I promise. The hope for me is to be LESS conspicuous. :) A nice matt pale grey :)

I'm sure if you asked someone could pick up the trailer and tow you back. You did say it was just a stones throw away :)

Good luck, and remember we like piccies so when you get round to it make sure you take lots! :D:D

:nopics:

Hello everyone.

Are you ready for more of this saga? I hope so.

I think we've decided to buy back, so I'm going to follow up the leads from here to get him home.

Then we have the option of rebuilding with your help, which really IS the deciding factor. If people really are happy to help then this is what we'll do.

I have to tell insurers either way tomorrow, and the buy back price is £1647 and he was revalued at £6.5 so I can buy a lot of beer for everyone, lots of bacon and BBQ stuff and a car to do us till he's fixed (preferably that I can keep) but probably won't get the respray...but it still seems more possible now, doesn't it?

So if the people who volunteered help finding bits and sticking him together are still up for it please tell me and let me know which beer you like. :) Then I shall follow up getting him home.

In the meantime, I need a car and have no idea what to get....I bet some wives hate having husbands who know about cars, but I'd like it if DH did.

Failing that, and it is possible that people feel they over committed, I was awed by your help but if we can't get help with the rebuild is anybody interested in him to restore at the buy back price?(my guess is it is unlikely but worth a try as a second option. :))

Excellent decision...although the buy back price seems a little high..never mind..you'll have more than enough for a good re-build and an extra car for when it breaks down.. :p

Once you get it back, or if you already know, make a list of as many parts as possible then the hunt can begin. I can send you ebay links..or as i said before you may want to buy the lot from one place, in any case all the big panels. Do you have an ebay account?

I'm sure someone will be along to help with any transport issues.

Thank you Storm. I'm really grateful for your help :) (how will I get beer to you in thanks?)

I don't have an ebay account but I will get one.

Transport should be ok, the people on the courier service board are great and have given a good price...once we are sure he's coming home.

I have enough beer, thanks!

Your first step should be what you want to do with your 90. Is it just you and your husband? You mentioned turning it into a truck cab possibly with a soft top covering on the back...the cabs are quite easy to get hold of...but the sticks and hoods can be expensive, especially if new...but they look great in my opinion.

Still reckon you can do it for about a grand though.

DH would like it back how it is I think. Its just us and one of the dogs in front, but another dog in the back. Occasionally I go in the back when we have passengers.

But...what is likely to be cheapest?

forgot to say its Cat C write off, so we need whatever test it is at the end of this.

How does that buy-back price equate with online cat C purchasers?
It seems high to me aswell, but you have to make the decision.

Higher. But Insurers are firm now and won't take an offer on it.

TBH, considering the engineer revalued and that you guys say we over paid I'm quite content I've done ok. If I were more confident in my knowledge it might be different but ...I'm not .

That VIC test is less daunting than I feared. :)

Dh, BTW had to go back to hospital on Thursday then Friday because of glass in his eyes. He's ok, but I will be getting him to join here soon. He knows nothing more than me though. But he does get final say on answers to questions like storms about doors and stuff. :)

Thanks SO much to all who have been so kind and helpful, I am Aurora's DH and owner of the car (well, technically, the insurer is atm)...am a novice on forums so please excuse any faux pas!

:welcome2: to the forum skedaddle, hope your making a speedy recovery after your little :rolly::doh:.

how are things progressing with the buy back? and don't worry if you make a faux pas, it will be pointed out and corrected quite quickly. ;)

Thank you barmatt! Yes recovered now...it's the amounts of money involved that hurt now, rather than the bits of broken glass...:(

Spoke with engineer who is "preparing his report"; I hope the insurer doesn't try to offer less than what he has offered (ie buy back price at £1647 and revalue at £6.5), unlikely I would guerss as he is the insurer's engineer, but you never know...
