So about a week ago I parked my discovery 2 td5 2000 up and locked it I went off for abit and came back to realise that it wouldn't unlock I spent about an hour walking round the discovery to get it to unlock when I got it unlocked it started straight up now everytime I turn it off with the key left in the ignition and try to start it the red light on the dash stays on and I cant start it until I lock it and un lock it with the fob does anyone know what the problem could be or any ideas on things to try and fix it. It's starting to annoy me now.

A standard function if u unlock place the key in the ignition switch and then don’t start the engine, the immobiliser will arm itself passively, That info is similar to what’s stated in the owners handbook, pressing the unlock button will remobilise the engine and so will the fob being in the ignition switch and communicating with the ‘exciter ring’ positioned at the rear of the switch.

Bottom line is, If the fob has an iffy battery then it won’t communicate also u will give the difficulty in locking/unlocking.
Fit a new battery simples, if you still have an issue the u have a deeper problem, pressing the fob button continually will deplete the fob battery very quickly,
