I recently put my 110 into a local Land Rover specialist to have new front wheel bearings fitted as some of you will know from my previous thread. All seemed well until I noticed the usual humming drone from the front offside wheel when turning left at speed. I decided to jack up my front axle for further investigation only to find quite a lot of wheel wobble existed in both front wheels.

Having just had my bearings replaced I thought that it couldn't possibly be the bearings and that I must have issues with my swivels. Anyhow, I was having a new steering box fitted the following Friday so I decided to wait until then and allow the garage to investigate further (not the same specialist that did my bearings as I found a closer garage to my home address).

On closer investigation the garage stated that the play was definitely coming from the wheel bearings and not the swivels. As you could imagine I was really frustrated by this having only days previously had my bearings replaced.

The mechanic told me that sometimes the bearings settle they have covered a few miles and that the packed grease may have caused additional play and that the wheel bearings would require tightening up a little.

I got the Landy home and set to work removing the wheel and hub cap so that I could tighten the bearing retaining nuts to reduce the wheel play. However, I was shocked at how tight I had to do up the nut to reduce the play in the wheel. Now I know over tightening the bearings is a big no no as it vastly reduces their service life but it was the only means of reducing the play to reasonable levels - Surely this isn't right.

Then more alarmingly tonight on my drive home from work I experienced what can only be frighteningly violent steering wheel vibrations (only when inputting inputs clockwise), and the vehicle wanted to pull to the left when i released my hands from the steering wheel.

First thing tomorrow I am going to try and book the vehicle back in to the garage to sort out these issues but do you guys have any ideas what the root cause of the problems are? The specialist that changed my bearings are extremely reputable (not wishing to name names) and are massive on the internet for part supplies. I keep racking my brains to understand what is going on and wonder if the bearing shells are correctly seated or maybe I have issues with the actual hubs?

I will also add that I have also had brand new uprated heavy duty steering bars fitted, new steering box and tracking.
 
if you the pre td5 2 nut wheel bearing adjustment and securing if you had to really tighten the nut either theres a spacer between the bearings or stub axle and bearing have fit issues, you adjust the first nut by hand to remove play, then fit tab washer and lock second nut
 
if you had to really tighten the nut either you were tightening the outer nut or the fir of bearing to stub is too tight or stepped
