Help please in a panic

Range Rover P38 2000 model ,
I came home tonight and there is a strong smell of hot plastic say smell coming from exhausts i did put cheap oil in engine would that be the problem or is something bad about to happen there is no smoke just that smell but soon goes when engine is switched off thanks

have ya driven over a bin liner and melted it to ya eggsauces?? failing that check ya handbrake cable int acting as an earth and melting the outer sheathing..

If you'd just topped up the engine (with the cheap oil) is there a chance that you've spilt some oil onto the rocker box cover? When I do this (which is every time I top it up because the oil seems take forever to drop down into the block) it stinks the car out for a few days after. It drops down into the valley and smokes quietly or runs down the other side and burns on the exhaust. Carry a fire extinguisher until you find out what it is!

You aren't missing a heat shield are you? Warm underseal can stink well.
