help please peeps,

last night my water pump bearing collapsed on my disco'and after fitting a new one i now have no power steering,is it possible/or has anyone else experienced pas failure after their water pump spitting it's dummy out???

yup they are, that was my first thought but there fine,i'm getting a whining noise as if its running dry but theres plenty of fluid in there i've even tried bleeding it but it's fine, when taking the old water pump off i did rotate the pully a few times while trying to crack the bolts on the pulley's before removing the belt'would that have upset the pump?

No it should be fine as long as it had fluid in there the whole time. You can kill them by running without fluid (as I well know). Curious, can't think what else could be wrong with it as long as belts and pipes are all attached. Perhaps you've just had an unlucky co-incidence? :(

 dunno i'm proper stumped now, when turning it kinda fights you, like intermitant pas then goes heavy again, well strange it is,maybe drianing the system and re filling and bleeding might work what do you rekon?

failling that a second hand pump's on the cards i think.

Yep re-check the belts, re-fill the system with fresh fluid and try again. If that fails then yeah, looking like the pump is suspect.

Not too bad

probly a stupid question but is it possible to refit belt wrong way round pulley causing pump to run backwards,

....u can also check the steering UJ, if some water got in it and it's freezing out it might embarrass the steering....spray some WD40 on it(or some de-icing agent first)....worth a try

When the water pump went on my Disco the first thing I knew about it was a problem with the steering. Was just water p!ssing out the pump and on to the PAS pulley. Just make sure the pulley is completly dry and grease free.
Shagged PAS is'nt out of the question but it's a bit of a coincidence.

right peeps here's the update'ive got me pas back :D

still stumped as to why i lost it in the first place though, ive been through the whole system this morning'no leaks at all and the old fluid was maybe 6months old at best'but drained it all and refilled with new and got the steering back  who's say's landy's havent got a soul :) going to keep a close eye on it though just incase the pas pump is the reason the bearing collapsed on the water pump, maybe putting more stress on the pully by starting to seize up  dunno probably grasping at straws probably just coincident, for the timbeing though all's good:D

many thank's to all the replies though guy's;):)
