Help needed asap *Please*

Hi everyone, can someone help me with idea's as to what could be wrong with my freelander.
When i drive it, it starts fine no problem and then as i get about 1 mile down the road it starts to make what i can only describe as a ticking noise that is now getting louder and faster the faster i drive. It almost sounds like something rattling in a tin can and appears to come from the passenger side of the car. It has had it for approx 7 weeks now i was hoping that when it went in for its mot it would be picked up but nothing was picked up and went straight through. Everyone that i drive passed can hear the noise too and so it is really embarrassing.
It is a k series 1.8 freelander w reg, it also has no propshaft as we were told that they run more fuel effectively without it and so far has proved right.
All belts and alternator etc have all been done 13000 miles ago but this is really confusing me, any help would be grateful, i asked another landy owner if it was ird possible??? but they seem to think it is not this so any help would be really grateful!!!

does it get faster if you rev the engine with clutch disengaging engine?

Okay, does it make the noise when stationary? If not then its transmission or wheels, in other words, moving bits. If it does make the noise when stationary then its engine. If it only happens in certain gears it could be gearbox problem.

ok no it does not make the noise when stationary, as i slow down it slows down too, it does not get faster if i rev the engine. Only time i hear it is if the car is moving, it happens in all gears Any suggestions???

should also add i am female, i know most car parts on it but not all!!!

may sound daft but i swear it is worse in the heat too but not 100%!!! temperature guage etc is all the same though!

After a mile of travel and worse in hot weather, so heat/friction related by sounds of it.

Is it still noisy under braking?

No it is not noisier under braking it literally just slows down the ticking noise and when car comes to standstill so does noise??

So it is still present during braking, in other words it doesnt disappear, so forget brakes binding. Possibly wheel bearing or transmission after clutch.

Does it have a universal joint on the driveshaft? It could be a worn UV joint. If you turn a tight bend it will get worse/ more noisy.

Sorry see what u mean now, the noise just slows down when braking and starts straight back up again when going off again. It sounds to me like it is possibly coming from passenger front side but obviously cannot be 100 percent sure as I am always driving. Would the wheel bearing or transmission after clutch make such an annoying and loud noise?? Is it an easy job to fix without having to take to garage as skint??? Also would the garage not have picked that up on mot??

It doesn't get any louder or noiser on bends, just as annoying as straight.

Right as you have no prop-shaft, you will be able to place front wheels up on axle stands and run the engine to drive the wheels. This way you should be able to stand at the front and hear where the noise is coming from.

The vehicle has to literally be moving to get any sound from it, I had it on axle stands at the weekend just emptying oil and ran engine afterwards because I gunked some of the engine but no noise present, does need to be about 1 mile into driving.

Did you engage 1st gear so the wheels were being driven though? Also dont forget that turning at tickover the wheels would take about 15 mins to cover 1 mile at 4mph.

Ok I will give it ago tomorrow on axle stands in 1st gear, any ideas if no noise happens??? Or possible outcomes??

Depends how handy you or a friend are with a spanner etc.

Could just be brake pad chatter.

Brake pads loose in their carrier and chattering, sometimes a sign of a warped disc.
Easy to check for, as you drive along apply the brakes gently, if the noise stops or alters it may well be brake pad chatter.
