Hi folks,

I've just had my 1993 Defender 110 van, aka Harriet, stolen from outside my house in Rushall, Walsall, West Midlands. If anyone sees her please let me know!

For what it's worth, the Reg No is/was K561SUY and it is/was white all over (well dirty white anyway - give or take the odd rusty spot where the upper and lower body sections join - it's amazing what white gaffer tape can hide...)

It is/was running on Cooper Discovery ATRs (brand new, of course...) but was otherwise completely standard and (you'd have thought) unremarkable!

But she is/was my pride and joy!!

Help find Harriet!

Thanks...

Ben

Hi all,

MadHatMan - thanks for the steer - will do.
Grimmer - Blunt rusty stuff? YES! (I'll rip a bit off Harriet for this - she's got plenty!)
Security - Erm. Well. There's no easy way to say this. Does a door lock that can be opened with a screwdriver (blunt, rusty or otherwise) count? Thought not.
Bigsi13 - Wolverhampton, eh? Well someone's got to! (only joking, mate - you're expression of sympathy and offer of eagle eyes is MUCH appreciated!)
Lil_me - landywatch. Yep good idea, thanks!

Is great to know folks care at this sorrowful time (sniff, sniff)...

Will keep you posted if any developments!

Personally I wouldn't want a car back if someone had stolen it, unsure if it's a woman thing as most friends of mine have said the same but can understand why you would in a way too. Keeping an eye on for sale sections on forums helps but also where posting it on here and landy watch helps. I remember one being found stored on a P&P site, noticeable as the owners daughter had put nail polish on the passenger window

:( just a shame we live in a society where nobody can leave other people's hard earned stuff alone

No, lil_me, I don't think it's solely a woman thing. The thought had crossed my mind that I'd maybe rather not get it back, with the notion that someone else had been in it in these circumstances. My wife and I talked about it and (oddly enough) it was she who made me think positively about trying to find my Landy - she saw it as a matter of principle. It would be different, she reasoned, if the house had been burgled. On balance I think she's right (in this as in all things...) but it will be interesting to see, if I do get it back, how I feel about it when it's recovered. A very fair point, Lil_me.

Grimmer (and others): Yes, I think a discloc will be the first thing I get when I get Harriet back or when I replace her with another 110 (which I surely will...)

As I said before, your comments are all welcome - it's good to know there are some decent people out there.

will keep an eye out on my travels buddy not that far away, these thefts seem to be getting closer :eek: hoping they leave us disco owners alone ffs.

I know its not much of a comfort since Harriet has already been taken, but did you think of installing a GPS tracker? Once these arseholes get around any device we fit to stop them being taken, breaking bits in the process, the landie is still gone.

I was loaned one for the Convoy for Heroes over the weekend, installed it myself in a place only I know about, and finally decided to buy it. Cost £100 and then £7 per month subs. I'm told it meets all of Thatchams specs except that you install yourself. The thing is Thatcham fitted GPS trackers will be in a specific place for a specfic model. Any toe-rag with an ounce of knowledge will search that place just in case. Mine is placed where I want it and I can swap it between motors ;)

No I'm not a rep for the company, nor am I on a 'retainer' for new orders. It just seems to be an obvious thing to do considering how much we spend on our motors....... and with luck, any thieving bastards will be caught red-handed :flame2:

Not sure if better or not, think they are the same as just put in different places.

I can't say anything about clutch claw as never had one, I do have a Disclock.
With the disclock there is no plastic parts unlike some of the other steering wheel devises, I had one of those Halfords half wheel covers useless all main parts are plastic.

With the pedal covers have read somewhere that the ones that just covered the pedal bitthat your foot touches, had been known that some would cut the pedals off and drive with what was left.
I think the clutchclaw and there is another one where it coves most of the pedal arm as well

Edit to my post above as this blooming works PC won't let me press the edit button :doh:

With the half wheel covers they grip the steering wheel so you can still turn untill the bar hits window, disc lock don't grip the wheel so the lock will turn but not the wheel
