Hi All
I have a m reg discovery 300tdi with 98000 miles on the clock. i have recently fitted 235/85/16 mud terrains my problem is since fitting them it seems to have lost a lot of topend pulling power ,it pulls really good through the gears with very little turbo lag but loses its leg when changed up to 5th.
i have done the usual ie decated, removed erg valve etc
Would fitting the above tyre size over gear the disco??

YES!
mine is exactly the same mate
big tyres need more right foot to get the top end speed
so less MPG
but my disco now cruises at about 70 instead of 55-60
an dies on a hill in 5th gear, just change down to 4th a bit sooner or put ya old tyres back on if ya don't like it an save the 235 85's for playing

Hi there, std tyres are 235/70/16 and you've put on 235/85/16's - this increases the gearing by about 10% so it's as if you now have a 6th gear, or an overdrive.

If you keep these tyres on, you will need to use 4th gear a lot more.

You can swap the LT230 transfer box for one from a D90. This will lower your high range gearing. But only if you are going to keep those tyres on there perminantly. If just for 'playing' then don't bother as the low range gearing is the same in all LT230 boxes.

thanks to all your replys that what i thought but wasnt sure ,will just have to alter my driving to suit the tyres i fiited them for the extra lift they give(just over an inch)

you could just tweak the pump a bit, there is plenty of info on here about it. mine pulls better now than before i changed the tires, and more mpg. not tons but an extra 70miles on tank range.

i've got a defender td5 t/box on the back of my lt77 in a 200 running 235/85s, tweaked pump and turbo, its like lightening from the lights but runs out of top end speed. cruises at 65, starts to sound a bit busy any faster.

My boost compensator looks different to the one in the link.Mine's got a round thing with "bosch" on it attached to the top right hand side. What is it ? 94 300 tdi .

I think its the egr solenoid control point, if you have removed your egr valve just ignore it or take it off

Thanks Dave .Think I'll leave it alone .Dont wont to break it.She's running nice at the moment so dont want to tempt fate. :)
