Hello
I recently bought a Freelander 1 Td4 facelift from 2004. I went trough the MOT checklist because it soon has to go through MOT. I then realised that the license plate light and instrument cluster light are gone. I did a search on the internet and discovered that other Freelander owners had the same problem and that there most likely is a connection between the problems - I just can’t find the problem. I checked the fuses and the bulbs - they works just fine.
Does anyone know what to do to fix this problem?

Regards Christian

Are both left and right tail lights working? They are on different fuses IIRC.
Edit.
They are on different fuses.
LH is fuse 7.
RH is fuse 17.

The rear number plate light went on my old fl1 but it was the unit itself, the contacts had badly corroded. I got a replacement off eBay, a Chinese copy which was slightly the wrong size for the fitting screws but I fitted it with a bit of fettling. It didn't affect my dash lights. I don't think they check them on the mot, my series dash lights haven't worked for the past 3 or 4 mot's and it's never been mentioned

My LH tail light is gone. I replaced the bulb and it works now. I got myself a multimeter and started tracking. I found out that the “plate” where the two bulbs for the license plate sits got no voltage but there came voltage though the wires. The problem was corrosion under the rivet (where the wires is connected to the plate/bulb holder).
So happy days - I now got light on my license plate.

There is still no light in my instrument cluster though...
