Hello, I'm Simon from Manchester.
I don't have a Range Rover yet but will be getting one in the very near future.
I'm self employed fixing TVs and have a 1997 BMW e39 Touring with the M51 engine in. 165K miles and counting. I want a 2.5 diesel as I know the engine pretty well from my own. It's chipped at 179bhp 349lb/ft and an egr delete.
I've had a few issues with the engine but nothing major.
I want a P38, I've always wanted one and although they can give problems I'm handy with the spanners. I have air suspension on the rear of mine so I'm a bit familiar with the principles of it. I have INPA and carsoft for mine and would get any diagnostic stuff for the Range Rover.
A V8 would be nice but slipped liners and cooling issues put me off a bit. Is there any preventative maintenance to stop this like viscous, stat, water pump and rad or is it just the luck of the draw?

Anyway, loads of really good info here and a good membership.

oh and welcome to the asylum dude, i cant help on P38's coz i sent got a fooking clue about em, cept they have pmt more often than me missus

keep the bmw and **** off to a gay forum. When you got a landy you may visit but untill then fook arf. Also the p38 is ****e cos its bmw...

Nice one. Red carpet treatment as well :D

The BMW is staying as my work car as I need reliability;)

Are you the white fluffy one lol.

I've been lurking for a while but I'm ready to buy so I thought I'd introduce myself.

I like to know all about the cars I'm going to buy. Forums have more real world info and help to avoid buying a lemon.
I did it with the BMW, the Mondeo, 406, Mr2 and the Focus.

I've heard of suspension, HEVAC, cooling problems among other things etc..
I want to make sure I know what to look for on the P38. I've always wanted one but could never justify one as my primary car. So as the wife doesn't use her Focus much it's being replaced by a P38 so I get to play in it on weekends etc..

I looked at a 4 litre lpg p38 today which was a 50ft stunner but on closer inspection had a **** poor repair on the rear quarter next to the light. Stevie Wonder and a rattle can over a ****ty fill job. Overall it was pretty tired but the money was way too strong.

I know whatever one I buy I'm going to have to do stuff to it.
I just want to minimise it as much as poss by getting the right one.
I've had my fingers burned in the past.

The BMW is only shiney because it was resprayed after an artic reversed into it early this year.

My mates tell me that I shouldn't get one and that it'll just empty my pockets in repairs but I just want one. Dark colour especially green with the light stone interior with the blue piping. Diesel preferred but if it's lpg and the right car then so be it.
I'm a qualified mechanic but don't do it for a living, so it means I still enjoy messing with cars. Being an old bastad at 43 hasn't dampened my enthusiasm for fcuking around with motors, that may change if I'm on the hard shoulder in the ****ing rain pumping up the suspension, and having steamed up windows because of fcuked blend motors :)

Thanks for the welcome.
