Hello to everyone. After two Range Rovers I have decided to try out a Disco.

I've just traded in my trusty (!) P38 for an '03 Discovery-2 with 46k on the clock. She's a facelift model, very clear all over (as you'd expect on this mileage) although she does look as if she's been sitting around alot having an easy life.

The discs are a bit rusty - don't know if that'll scrub off or if I'm looking at new discs - but the rear door is very tight, no droop or scratching to floor or door, and all the SLS pipes and rear bags look clean. She sits up and down at the back okay. No sunroof leaks that I could see. All electrics work apart from rear offside central locking, which the dealer will fix as part of the MOT before collection.

I was quite surprised by the performance after she was warmed up: not as fast as the 4.6 (of course) but quite a sprightly pick-up. None-the-less I of course will think about chipping her to get a bit more torque particularly.

Only think I will need is a new set of treads (got another £450 for that) so any recommendations on something nice, fat, and all-terrain would be welcome.

Looking forward to picking her up next weekend so I can really find something to fiddle with....

General Grabber AT2's for me every time! Good on the road, just as good off.

Yet to find a better all use tyre!

I went for the TDi...

I have some reservations, but to be honest, I have been looking for weeks and had a bit of trouble finding a good clean low-miler V8. The 800-mile round trips to Scotland (we do a couple per year) were pretty lumpy with the old V8, so that was a factor.

I've read up on some of the chipping options, and it seems the td5 has quite a bit of power to spare, and quite alot of torque. Have checked with insurance and damage will not be too bad.

Interesting you say that - I had GT AT2's on the Rangie! No additional road noise that I heard, nice fat walls for non-standard parking manouvres.

What size do you run? On the Rangey I went up from a 55 profile to a 65, which looked and ran alot better, although the auto-box changed slower.

Jock

Sorry - just read back to your post 255/65s DUH

Sounds great.

I have 255/70/16 BFG AT,s on my TD5. They are great tyres, ( as are the Grabbers ), and the slightly bigger profile fills the arches a little more. The bigger rolling radius also makes the speedo read spot on. The AT pattern has cost me 1 mpg and road noise isnt noticable.

If your going to spend money on one thing though, make it a remap ! ( espesially if you,ve been used to a petrol ). It will transform the driving experience like you would,nt belive !.

Another vote for General Grabbers AT²'s or BFG AT's both great tyres.

Something else that you might care to considor - General Grabber UHP's. I have these on my TD5 255/55/18's and they are truly wonderful as a road tyre and not at all bad as a green lane tyre.

The levels of grip onroad are just staggering to be honest. I had some friends over from England last weekend and they just couldn't believe that a 2.2ton Disco could go round corners like that !!!!!

Attractive price too........................

Nice one Del, thanks.

They look pretty chunky right enough, I like it.

Any issues with clearance at all? Can the back go all the way to the bump stops without any intereference?

Jock

PS - BTW did the pictures work like I said?

Theres no issues whatsoever with these tyres. I,ve been up,down and around with them and no scrubbing anywhere !.

As I said before, I checked with a Road Angel and the cars speedo now reads spot on from 30mph right up to 80 mph.

I really only went for the BFG,s because I could,nt get hold of Grabbers , but I,m really pleased with them and am looking forward to their legendary wear.

Thanks for the tip about photo,s. Worked a treat.
