Roughly 20 yrs ago I treated myself to a 3 door 1.8 Freelander when they first came out in a fi of excitement..
Then the, now well known head gasket problems etc, followed.
But I liked the design. And kids appeared, so I changed to a 5 door TD4.
Then turbo problems followed affecting the engine at expense.
So went German.
Now needing a knockabout second car have come across guess what, a 1.8, 3 door facelift 2004. For peanuts and am delighted ....I always loved the design of the freelander to the extent that mechanical probs overlooked.
Paid 1/30th of the amount 20 yrs ago!
It needs VCU doing at some point, clutch wearing, new tyres needed, exhaust rear box will go quite soon.
Gasket done.
Am I mad and am I going to maintain any credibility on here.....
For me, Im happy with the car, it looks great and is good to drive. Cheap as chips fun.
Cordon Bleu level of repair cost needed.
