I have just purchased a P38 2.5td bmw engine, pretty safe bet here "I thought how nieve. 2000 reg and wished I'd hadn't, Norfolk can get snowed up especially on the narrow lanes so as I've always fancied a rang rover I took the chance, taught me to do my home work first.
Not amused.

Nowt wrong with a P38 diesel if well maintained, parts are cheap and all the info is available to fix it. But if you are not happy, I'll give you £500 for it:)

Sorry you are disappointed with the P38. I did research for about 4-5 months and in the end I didn't buy one at all. i did spend a small fortune on a Discovery 3 after doing no research. About a week after I bought it I thought 'what have I done?' But it haven't regreted it at all since - hope things improve for you. If not take comfort in the fact that you didn't spend £14000. :)

Hi, datatek, I must say whole heartedly I disagree about nothing wrong with a p38, although the one I got didn't have a full SH, lock out problem, but that was sorted and engine is purring fine, but, gearbox gave up whilst pulling my caravan down to storage today now can only get 1st and reverse, quoted £700 +vat for second hand box including fitting, so after this I'll be going back to Japanese, much more reliable, sorry all you landy zoners.

Hello all, nice to get your messages, but don't think I'll be a landy zoner long, due to my P38, sorry, I thought land rover was a reliable vehicle before I got one, learning an expensive lesson, good luck with your all landies though.

If you can get first and reverse which are mechanically selected, it could be a simple electrical fault.
I can't afford a Jap motor:(
