Hi all,
I’m Ash, hopefully using this forum to research what would be the best Landy for me to try and turn into an expedition vehicle and drive it around Europe and sleep in it

I’m only after some thing cheap as will be damaging it during green laneimg / off-roading

I don’t want to spend more than 5k on the vehicle

I’ve had a outlander and a shogun in the past but now think in want a land rover

I’d love a Defender 110 but way too much money and work for me

keep looking at a disco3 as can pick ok one up with 150k miles for quite cheap, and tax looks cheap ish if get the ones before 06? (I think )

any suggestions?

Hi and welcome!

If you’re going to go greenlaning, you’re doing something wrong if you know you’ll damage it. Probably best not to damage it if you intend driving around Europe in it too!

But in terms of comfort and space to sleep and carry kit for travelling, a disco 3 is great. The early ones are lower tax, but you’d have to check the exact date. Otherwise they’re around the £500 mark I believe.o_O

Thanks for the info

I would want a manual one really due to complexity of fixing and feel more in control when off roading

I don’t know much about Land Rovers, is the disco3 semi reliable ? And what does everyone think of the v6 diesel unit in them ?

also, does it have locking diffs like my shogun did?

sorry for all the questions

The disco 3/4 is a complex vehicle. TDV6 reliability... seach for 'tdv6 snapped crank' on google. Nice to drive but not cheap to own.
