Hi chaps.

Very close to purchasing my first landy. A 98 discovery 2. Im really excited and kind of scared. My mechanical knowledge is pretty much non existent but Im hoping with a haynes manual and a little help off the forum I can take care of at least the basics. Let the journey begin...

Hello and welcome. Before you part with any cash. Check the chassis, very carefully for rot. If you can, take someone with you who knows Discos. Earlt D2's can be real money pits without it been obvious..

Hi Pikey. Im looking at buying it off a friend who has been using it as his daily drive for a while now. Had a bit of work done since hes bought it and he's very good with cars. I dont think Id look at buying it if it was from ebay or such. Ive picked up that the main areas to check for rust are chassis, boot floor, sills, wings and arches. Im going to have a good poke around on monday. Any further advice would be much appreciated. Thanks for the info so far.

the bodies usually rot free its the chassis you need to look at especially rear and you should climb under and look at the inner side rails
