That is the front diff flange to front propshaft, not driveshaft...

Driveshafts go from diff to wheels, propshafts go front to back.

It looks like your engine has dropped....now, even a failed engine mount *shouldn't* cause that, as they should be designed to leave clearance in the event of failure....I wonder, (and this is a big wonder) if the front subframe has snapped, and the engine has dropped! WOuld be unlikely but I can't think of another reason for diff flange to meet the ARB....unless the ARB has come loose!
Well had another look and subframe (from what I can see) looks ok. So I’m lost and looks like a garage job to investigate. Looks like bottom of the sub frame has took a whack from whatever came off. Unless the ding was there previously.
But thanks for the help and hopefully the garage will draw a conclusion.

A garage will certainly draw your wallet:eek:

Just a quick update. The problem was sheared engine mounting bolts. Had to be drilled out and replaced. New CV boot. And a full diagnostic check whilst she was in. All sorted.
Thanks for the comments etc. see how long she lasts now.
Thanks for reporting back.
How the heck did the engine bolts shear I wonder?

No idea. I was doing under 30 mph when it went. Mechanic just put it down to the mileage 149K.
They spent a fair few hours drilling the sheared bolts out. So the labour, cv boot, battery drain repair (loose connection) somewhere. Full diagnostic check. Cost me £466. I’m pleased it’s back on the road. Lol.
